Preparation for anything is a major key to make it the best it can possibly be. Believe it or not its no different for your senior session. Obviously Im doing my part to prep for your session, believe me I go in to make it the best you could ask for! So what are some ways you can prep for the best photos?

1. Style

Im not talking about your personal style. Yes, thats important, but its also important to make this shoot something that you will like now AND later. While you put together your favorite looks, take some time to go through your wardrobe and match some things that you have never matched together before. Have a (stylish) friend there to help so you can get a second opinion. I can tell you that about 90% of the time I have a senior who trys something new with their wardrobe LOVES the outcome in the photos. Don’t be afraid to ask questions either! We love to help with this!

2. Scout

It seems like every photo you see these days is taken in places that you could never dream existed around you. Trust me, thats simply not true. One of my favorite things to do is go out, put some chill music on, and drive around. I love scouting new locations. The cool thing about your senior photos is that they’re YOUR senior photos. If you come to me with an idea of at least something you like, I am almost always thrilled to know that you have put some time and effort into it and have an idea of what you are looking for. Pick a place (or two) that you feel like represent you. Maybe its a coffee shop you spend a lot of time at, or a place that holds a very dear memory for you… let me know about that! I love to capture YOU in YOUR place. Even if you just have an idea for what type of location you want. Urban, woodsy, gritty, modern… you name it and I probably have a spot.

3. Spill

As I said previously, I LOVE when Seniors get involved and tell me their ideas. This is a chance for you to get creative and spill your most creative thoughts. No limits. If its too farfetched we will reel it in and find a way to make it work but the fact of the matter is Ive never had to do that with anyone who brought an idea up. When you start getting creative, I usually am able to take it to another level and make the photos unique to who you are. You only get to do this senior thing once, lets have a blast with it!

4. Sleep

This seems like a strange thing for me to tell you to do, but the worst thing you could do is get so excited about your shoot that you lose sleep and show up so tired that we need to do extra work to make you look awake. Don’t worry, I’m known for my coffee habits and I don’t mind buying you one or two, but if you’re not rested you’re not at your best. Sleep is a key to a healthy life, and a healthy person is who you want to look back on your photos and remember.

5. Search

I almost named this one “Pin” but I didn’t wanna lose the ’S’ streak. Plus there is much more to this thats just Pinterest. When you show up with pinterest ideas, sometimes they’re awesome, most of the time they need help. Don’t let that stop you from getting inspired. You don’t have to have it all planned out, thats my job, but I can tell you that the seniors who showed up and told me they started a pinterest board months ago before they ever even hired me ended up with a shoot that they couldn’t be happier about. Don’t forget to search our site first ;)
