Honestly, nothing I could say from this point on would begin to even touch the beauty of this wedding day. Secondly because I know we have a fairly solid group of photographers that follow along with us here on the blog we can’t wait to share with you the behind the scenes YouTube video of from this wedding along with how you can get your hands on a copy of our “OUT OF OFFICE” Destination Wedding Photographer guide by CLICKING HERE.

FACT : the sun hits different in Cabo.

When Jared and I landed in Mexico for this wedding we knew a few things were going to be true.

  1. The Cape Hotel was going to be epic (I had already spent far too much time researching shooting locations and ideas for the wedding day)

  2. Peyton And Forrest are two of the most beautiful humans alive. The reality is that the aesthetics of this wedding weren’t going to be much of a battle.

  3. We wanted to give these two a few minutes to just play and have fun together with cameras watching.

To say that we had any idea that those few moments were gong to turn into this - well to be honest we had no idea. It turns out a couple shots of tequila, a wild sunset, and the tide coming in, and 4 cameras was some sort of recipe for a level we unlocked.

So we met by the pool and honestly I was nervous we had started a little too early. The sunsets in Mexico are short and powerful but when the sun is too high it really can be difficult to get those dramatic long shadow shots we wanted. So we kind of wandered to the pool and small talked killing time. By the time we hit the beach and started to walk I was hoping it would just take us awhile to get to the rocks we were headed towards. That part worked out well - the day before Jared and I had scouted this very location, at almost the same time and there was one very big difference in 24 hours. The tide. What had been little chilly waves that washed up over our ankles were now at least waist deep and slamming into the very rocks we wanted to get around. Again I’ll admit it the secret sauce in these moments are the couples. These two weren’t just down to go have this adventure, they lead the way. We walked with cameras over head trying not to fall or trip and they flirted and danced in the water as the sun dropped lower and lower.

There was a point though. I mean aside from just having gorgeous photos together. The point was to unwind. To let Mexico sink in. To walk back up to their room, change into something nice for their rehearsal dinner, and have their lungs filled with new air. For us it was just as important. Breaking down barriers, reestablishing trust, getting these two used to our voices and our direction in the moment, and then - of course - to have something to show to all of the friends and family during the rehearsal dinner that would make the photography (and the photographers) an instant part of the party. Missions accomplished.

So a little out of order here as we release these things but all intentional. The wedding came last but got published first. The video about how to make moments like this a real job and how to manage the stress and pressure of it all came next and now this wild, beautiful shoot anchored by a short little film that until this moment nobody even knew existed. You read that right. Jared shot these clips and compiled this little video just because, well, he could. How cool is that? If you read that slow enough you might have caught the secret.

We are releasing a 30 minute film from Mexico along side a 24 page beautiful PDF guide called “OUT OF OFFICE” that is a total look into how to plan, prepare, and create amazing work as a Destination Wedding Photographer. You’ll get to come along side us on this trip, scout the locations live, look at the apps we use and how we build the schedules and then see the images side by side with our thought processes behind the locations.
